Chroma AI는 ChatGPT·Claude·Gemini의 화면을 사용자가 직접 꾸밀 수 있게 해주는 크롬 확장 프로그램입니다. 배경 이미지, 색상 테마, 폰트, 유리(글래스) 효과를 브라우저 안에서 바로 바꿀 수 있고, 다른 사용자가 만든 테마를 클릭 한 번으로 가져와 적용할 수도 있습니다.

왜 만들었나

AI 챗봇은 어느새 우리가 하루에 가장 오래 들여다보는 화면 중 하나가 되었습니다. 글을 쓰고, 코드를 짜고, 자료를 정리하고, 아이디어를 다듬는 일이 전부 그 안에서 일어납니다. 그런데 정작 그 화면은 전 세계 모든 사용자에게 완전히 똑같은 모습으로 제공됩니다. 깔끔하긴 하지만, 수백 시간을 마주하다 보면 어느 순간 무미건조하게 느껴집니다.

바탕화면을 바꾸고, 코드 에디터의 테마를 고르고, 메모 앱의 폰트를 바꾸는 일은 모두 당연하게 여겨집니다. 오래 머무는 공간일수록 내 취향이 반영되어야 편안하기 때문입니다. 그런데 유독 AI 챗봇만 손댈 수 없었습니다. Chroma AI는 그 간단한 불편에서 출발했습니다.

처음에는 개인적으로 쓰려고 만든 작은 도구였습니다. 배경 하나 바꿨을 뿐인데 같은 작업이 훨씬 덜 지루해진다는 걸 느꼈고, 주변에서도 써보고 싶다는 이야기가 나오면서 공개 확장으로 다듬게 되었습니다.

무엇을 할 수 있나

  • 배경 이미지·GIF 업로드 — 좋아하는 사진이나 움직이는 배경을 챗봇 배경으로 설정합니다. 크기·위치 조절과 창 크기 변경 시 자동 재배치를 지원합니다.
  • 12가지 무료 색상 프리셋 — 배경·강조·텍스트 색이 한 번에 바뀌는 큐레이션 테마입니다.
  • 글래스(글래스모피즘) 효과 — 블러·투명도·색상 오버레이를 조절해 배경 위에서도 글자가 또렷하게 유지됩니다.
  • 테마 갤러리 — 다른 사용자가 공유한 테마를 둘러보고 한 번에 적용하거나, 직접 만든 테마를 공유할 수 있습니다.
  • 폰트·프리셋 저장 (Pro) — 자주 쓰는 조합을 저장해 두고 상황에 따라 전환합니다.

우리가 지키는 원칙

1. 대화 내용은 절대 건드리지 않습니다

Chroma AI는 화면의 겉모습만 바꿉니다. 대화 내용을 읽거나, 저장하거나, 외부로 보내지 않습니다. 테마 설정은 브라우저 로컬 저장소(chrome.storage)에 보관되며 서버로 전송되지 않습니다. 테마 갤러리에 직접 공유하기로 선택한 테마와 로그인 이메일만 서버에 저장됩니다. 자세한 내용은 개인정보처리방침에 정리해 두었습니다.

2. 독립적인 외부 도구입니다

Chroma AI는 OpenAI, Anthropic, Google과 어떠한 제휴·후원·승인 관계도 없습니다. 각 서비스의 상표는 해당 권리자에게 있으며, 저희는 사용자가 그 웹사이트의 시각적 외관을 개인 취향에 맞게 바꿀 수 있도록 돕는 제3자 도구일 뿐입니다.

3. 무료로도 충분히 쓸 수 있어야 합니다

색상 프리셋, 배경 이미지 업로드, 글래스 효과 같은 핵심 기능은 무료로 제공합니다. Pro는 무제한 업로드·폰트 변경·프리셋 저장처럼 더 깊이 쓰는 분들을 위한 선택지입니다. 무료 사용자를 광고나 제한으로 압박하지 않습니다.

4. 가볍게 유지합니다

확장 프로그램은 브라우저를 느리게 만들면 안 됩니다. 스크롤·스트리밍 중 불필요한 렌더링을 줄이고, 고해상도·GIF 배경에서도 부드럽게 동작하도록 지속적으로 최적화하고 있습니다.

가이드는 누가, 어떻게 쓰나

사이트의 가이드는 Chroma AI를 직접 만드는 팀이 작성합니다. 외부 필자에게 맡기거나 대량으로 찍어내지 않습니다. 우리가 매일 쓰는 기능과 사용자에게 실제로 들어오는 질문을 바탕으로 쓰기 때문에, 설명이 제품 동작과 어긋나지 않습니다.

지키는 원칙은 세 가지입니다.

  • 확인한 것만 씁니다. 무료 업로드 횟수, 지원 형식, 기능 범위 같은 수치는 실제 동작을 확인하고 적습니다. 마케팅용으로 부풀리지 않습니다.
  • 제품 자랑보다 문제 해결을 먼저 씁니다. 우리 기능으로 해결되지 않는 부분(예: 브라우저 확대·축소로 충분한 경우)은 그렇게 안내합니다.
  • 변경되면 고칩니다. ChatGPT·Claude·Gemini의 화면은 자주 바뀝니다. 안내가 실제와 달라지면 문서를 수정하고 상단에 갱신일을 표시합니다.

Chroma AI is a Chrome extension that lets you theme ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. You can change the background image, color scheme, fonts and glass effects right inside your browser — and apply themes other people have made with a single click.

Why we built it

AI chat has quietly become one of the screens we stare at longest each day. We write in it, debug in it, organise research in it, and think out loud in it. And yet that screen looks exactly the same for everyone on earth. It's clean, but after a few hundred hours it starts to feel sterile.

Changing your desktop wallpaper, picking a code editor theme, choosing a font in your notes app — all of that is taken for granted. The longer you live in a space, the more it should feel like yours. AI chat was the one place you couldn't touch. Chroma AI started from that small, specific frustration.

It began as a private tool built for one person's own use. Swapping in a single background made hours of the same work feel noticeably less dull — and once other people asked to try it, we cleaned it up and released it publicly.

What it does

  • Upload images and GIFs — set any photo or animated wallpaper as your chat background, with resize, reposition, and automatic re-fitting when you resize the window.
  • 12 free color presets — curated themes where background, accent and text colors all change together.
  • Glassmorphism effects — adjustable blur, opacity and color overlay keep text crisp over any wallpaper.
  • Theme Gallery — browse themes shared by other users and apply them instantly, or share your own.
  • Fonts and saved presets (Pro) — build a personal library and switch between looks in one click.

What we stand for

1. We never touch your conversations

Chroma AI changes appearance only. It does not read, store or transmit your conversations. Theme settings live in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage) and are never sent to our servers. The only things stored server-side are the themes you explicitly choose to share to the gallery and your sign-in email. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

2. We're an independent third-party tool

Chroma AI is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. Their trademarks belong to them. We simply help users restyle the visual appearance of websites they already use.

3. The free tier has to be genuinely useful

Color presets, custom image backgrounds and glass effects are free. Pro exists for people who want to go deeper — unlimited uploads, custom fonts, saved presets. We don't pressure free users with ads or artificial friction.

4. It has to stay light

An extension should never make your browser feel slow. We continuously reduce unnecessary rendering during scrolling and response streaming, so even high-resolution and animated backgrounds stay smooth.

Who writes the guides, and how

The guides on this site are written by the team that builds Chroma AI. They aren't outsourced or mass-produced. They come from the features we use daily and the questions users actually send us, which is why the instructions match how the product really behaves.

Three rules we hold ourselves to:

  • We only publish what we've verified. Numbers like free upload limits, supported formats and feature scope are checked against the actual product before they go in. We don't inflate them for marketing.
  • Solving the problem comes before promoting the product. Where our features aren't the answer — browser zoom being enough, for instance — we say so.
  • When things change, we fix the page. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini redesign frequently. When guidance drifts out of date we revise it and show the updated date at the top.
